It’s fancy and it’s full of fat. The Trufflenator burger comes to the Dee Why Hotel

IT has two Wagyu beef patties, maple syrup, bacon, American cheese and five kinds of truffle-infused ingredients — for $18.50, meet The Trufflenator.

THE Dee Why Hotel has taken humble cheeseburger to a whole new level, and it’s called The Trufflenator.

Featuring two 100g Wagyu beef patties, bacon, American cheese, maple syrup and onion rings, truffles have been infused with five other ingredients in this meaty little monster.

Head chef Brad Johnston used the rare and expensive fungus to make truffle salt, truffle butter, truffle-infused provolone cheese, truffle maple syrup and truffle mayo.

Mr Johnston said he came up with the decadent burger on a truffle-hunting trip last month.

“I went to Canberra with a group of chefs,” he said.

“We learnt how to maximise the flavour and the dollar value by building it up in layers. Truffles work well with ingredients that high in fat and are sweet, so I thought I’d put it on the menu as a burger.”

The $18.50 burger is served in a Japanese milk bun. Chips are extra.

Mr Johnston said The Trufflenator has been getting rave reviews on social media.

“Fatties burger appreciation society have been posting great reviews, these people take burgers very seriously,” he said.

With two-thirds of an average person’s daily kilojoule intake, Palm Beach dietitian Kathryn Hawkins advocates common sense when it comes to eating novelty food.

“There would be approximately 6000kJ in a burger like this, the average daily intake for an Australian adult is 8500kJ, It is also very high in saturated fat,” Ms Hawkins said.

“If you are going to eat one, share it, but novelties like a “trufflenator” don’t have a place in our everyday intake.”
