DUDE, where’s the food? Hungry competitors in town for Australian Open of Surfing can get their fix of Manly’s New York-style snacks.
The Hot Dog Man on The Corso is happy to oblige. Andy Wayne and his wife Linn opened their late-night gourmet hotdog joint in 2014.
Pick of the menu is the $15 gourmet Spanish hotdog, Linn Wayne said. “It comes with grilled chorizo, Manchego, rocket and garlic aioli,” she said.
The secret ingredient is the bun. The Waynes wax about their specially-baked bread rolls. It is a cross between brioche and a milk bun, Mrs Wayne said.
For burger lovers, Hot Dog Man has Mr Cheesey, a patty packed with premium beef double vintage cheddar, bacon, beer-braised onions, kewpie mayo and house pickles.
The venue caters for late-night snack attacks. It is open until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.
Beachside bar Daniel San and Manly Wharf Hotel also have premium burgers on their menus. Head chef Alex Towning said the pub’s $20 American-style patty contains nothing but beef.
“There is nowhere to hide, it’s just beef, quality is the key,” he said.
