NORTHERN beaches schools have been putting their own twist on Harmony Day.

From mufti days, wearing orange and national dress, to singing songs and tasting global food, schools have been celebrating this year’s theme, Our Diversity Is Our Strength.

Elanora Heights Public School chose an artistic approach to the annual event.

Students made and decorated figurines, school community engagement officer Claire Hammond said.

“Every student made one, they were all different,” Mrs Hammond said.

“There was no right way and no wrong way, it highlighted the ideal embracing diversity.”

The figurines were created in the classrooms.

“Students worked with their buddies, the older kids helped the younger kids,” Mrs Hammond said.

The 600 finished figurines were displayed in concentric rings in the school grounds.

Students also performed the song We are Australian and school captains presented a short Harmony Day assembly to their peers.
