THE Easter Bunny came by drone on the northern beaches.
The modern chocolate delivery method saw paddleboarders, beachgoers and even a family aboard a luxury yacht surprised with a special treat by the mysterious airborne craft.
Adam Rikys, 34, from Queenscliff and friend Hamish Cross, 28, came up with the plan. The New Zealand-born videographers, who work mostly in travel, wanted to do something a bit different using their expertise in filmmaking as well as flying drones. Mr Cross, only moved to Australia a month ago after working overseas.
He said: “I’ve done a fair bit of drone flying around the world. I worked for a tour company.
“Adam bought a drone and I’ve been helping him a little bit.
“First people were cracking up. It caught them off guard. You saw them peering at the writing which was on the basket and said’ please take one’ and they’d kind of click. It was pretty funny.”
Mr Rikys works on promotional films, and said he hoped to create a video that would spread across the web.
“We thought it would be a pretty fun idea to spread a bit of Easter love,” he said. “Hamish came up with the idea- he’s an expert drone pilot, and he’s teaching me.”
The pair once made a TV show in New Zealand called Wingin it, which saw them travel to 17 countries with no plans or money.
