MORE housing and more jobs will be provided at the Brookvale Hotel site after planning authorities approved a major project.

The Burst hotel group received approval for a five-storey block of 73 units, 15 commercial spaces and an underground carpark.

The units will be built on the current carpark site, and the hotel will continue to trade.

Co-owner Charles Kelly said the development was one of many recent projects announced to help improve the suburb’s appearance.

He cited plans to build a community health centre on the vacant block opposite Warringah Mall, and the Sea Eagle’s plans for Brookvale Oval.

“The whole area has needed an injection of development , and this is a step in the right direction,” he said.

“Our development will ensure the future of the hotel and the extra businesses will help employment.”

The hotel refurbishment could start in September, Mr Kelly said.

Burst will next apply to subdivide and sell the carpark to a developer.
