Andrew’s ready to tackle Tony in Warringah

“There’s never been a more exciting time to be Labor’s candidate in Warringah” is the battle call of Andrew Woodward, who will stand against former prime minister Tony Abbott.

“There’s never been a more exciting time to be Labor’s candidate in Warringah” is the battle call of Andrew Woodward, who will stand against former prime minister Tony Abbott in the seat of Warringah.

Mr Woodward, 50, of Balgowlah, runs a Manly-based communications consultancy on climate change and sustainability.

He said he is committed to real action on climate change, properly funded government services, protecting Medicare, TAFE, the CSIRO and penalty rates, marriage equality, an Australian republic, indigenous constitutional recognition “and an end to the divisive Tony Abbott era of Australian politics”.

He said that in his 22 years as the Warringah MP, Mr Abbott had done little for his electorate but “he now wants another three years on the taxpayer payroll, pushing his rejected and ridiculed agenda, traipsing around the world doing paid public speaking events, shirt-fronting Malcolm Turnbull and undermining the Liberal Party from the backbench”.

“Tony Abbott’s lack of achievement in Warringah, his polarising nature and deep resentment across the political spectrum about his selfish approach to politics national and locally have made him deeply unpopular,” he said

“The majority of the community wants Tony Abbott to go.

“It is time to go for real action on climate change; it is time to go for better health, education and public transport. It is also time for Tony Abbott to go.

“I don’t know if I’ll win or lose, which is why I say ‘it’s time to go’.”
