HUGE trees have been uprooted on the lower north shore and Taronga Zoo suffered a minor landslide along its perimeter fence as a major clean up gets underway after Sydney’s wild weather.
Cars were crushed by trees and powerlines were downed forcing the closure of Bradleys Head Rd.
The storm forced the temporary cancellation of Taronga Zoo’s Vivid light show for the safety of guests, animals and staff. The event reopened on Monday night.
And police said no animals were hurt or escaped in the landslide at the zoo.
Firefighters and SES also worked around the clock fielding calls from residents dealing with the damage.
“All around Mosman trees are uprooted, roofs damaged, flooding — we have had a turbulent weekend. Now it’s clean-up time,” said Anna Herald from Cremorne Radiology.
“Our patients are in disbelief. They have not seen such extensive weather damage in Mosman.”
The awning collapsed outside the premises.
Mosman SES were called to 75 jobs over the two days mostly to deal with fallen trees. Several had collapsed across streets and on top of cars.
Firefighters also attended several jobs in the area. Bradleys Head Road was completed blocked on Sunday after a tree collapsed, bringing powerlines with it.
Another tree fell on two cars on Upper Avenue Road sparking a gas leak. No one was injured in the incident.
At North Sydney the recently opened Coles supermarket was hit by flooding.
