A psychologist who is accused of sexually touching a child over a dozen times has now been charged with possessing child abuse material.

A former psychologist from Mosman, who is accused of sexually touching a child over a dozen times, has been hit with a fresh charge of possessing child abuse material.

Graham Courtney, 47, faced Downing Centre Local Court where he faces 14 charges of intentionally sexually touching a child under the age of 10, and one charge of possessing child abuse material.

On Thursday, solicitor Nick Hanna said the fresh charge related to “voluntary admissions” Courtney made during an interview with police when he was arrested in July 2023.

“When my client was arrested on 10 July, he made voluntary admissions to the child abuse material and the laptop and the location of it,” he said.

“We don’t know why it took so long to locate, it seems to be an issue for the officer in charge.”

The court also heard the lengthy delay between Courtney’s arrest and the charge being laid was because the officer in charge had not reviewed what was downloaded from the laptop.

Graham Courtney faces a slew of charges.

Mr Hanna also told the court his client had “a long history of mental health issues”.

Magistrate Karen Stafford noted the continued delay of the matters, which had previously been adjourned 16 times, along with the fresh charge being laid nearly two years after Courtney’s initial arrest.

“It seems to have arisen out of the police interview which involved further forensic investigation of technological equipment, the officer in charge’s workload meant that couldn't be done and so the charge was only laid yesterday.”

A adjournment was granted and the matters will return to Downing Centre Local Court on May 27.

Courtney will remain on bail.
