New children’s hair salon Carlo & Elise offers smart styles for cool kids in Mosman

IF IT’S good enough for stylish Mosman mums (and dads) then it’s good enough for their offspring.
The well-heeled suburb has a new hair salon specialising in cool cuts for kids — and even babies.
Carlo & Elise is the brainchild of former accountant Marco Quivaqui, who hit upon the idea after seeing his nephew get his first hair cut.
Mr Quivaqui said he always dreamt of opening his own business and his young relative provided the inspiration.
“It was my little nephew’s first hair cut and the whole family wanted to go, it was a big event,” he said.
“It was such a beautiful experience, a nice environment — you’re dealing with the most precious people on this planet, the kids.”
Mr Quivaqui said he had taken the concept of the children’s hair salon to a whole new level.
“If you look at other kids’ salons, they use little dinosaurs, lions, in their branding and marketing,” he said.
“In our case it’s not like that. We are targeting more the nine and 10-year-old kids too.
“They feel animals are cute, but that’s for the little ones, it’s not for me.
“We wanted to break the mould and make sure they feel this is their salon as well.”
Mr Quivaqui named his business after his father and niece.
He said family was important to him and the strong family atmosphere in the Mosman community encouraged him to open his business in the area.
Carlo & Elise has qualified stylists and Mr Quivaqui is training in barbering and plans to study hairdressing.
Services include a $30 baby’s first cut pack, which includes a certificate, lock of hair and balloon, and a $45 shampoo, cut and blow wave for children aged 1 to 10.
By comparison, EZRA Hair Studio North Sydney offers “luxury services at an affordable price” and charges $18 for an under-12 children’s cut and $7 extra for a wash and dry.
More expensive services at Carlo & Elise include a full head of foils for older children aged 11 to 17, which starts at $130, and permanent colouring of untreated hair from $85.
