A man has sustained burned to his face and hands after a gas main caught alight in McMahons Point.
A MAN sustained burns to his face and arms after a gas main caught fire in McMahons Point.
An exclusion zone was set up around East Crescent St after midday as firefighters battled the blaze.
The road and neighbouring buildings were evacuated.
The 62-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital.
He is now in a stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Firefighters applied a cooling mist to the fire while they waited for the gas company to turn off the main.
The fire crews were rotated frequently due to the heatwave in the city.
They began to exit the scene just before 2pm after the leak was stopped.
