Evacuation centres are being set up on Sydney’s north shore in response to a “catastrophic fire danger” warning issued across the region.
The Rural Fire Service has raised the bushfire threat level for the Greater Sydney region on Tuesday due to worsening weather conditions gripping NSW.
The RFS said residents living near bushland areas are most at risk from the combination of high temperatures, strong winds and low humidity.
Seven evacuation centres will be set up in the Ku-ring-gai Council area on Tuesday for homeowners as required.

The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden and all bushland areas including walking tracks and fire trails will be closed to the public on Tuesday.
The warning is the highest threat level rating and is first time it has been issued for the Greater Sydney region.
The RFS has encouraged residents to remain vigilant by taking the following steps:
— Activate your bushfire emergency plan.
— For your survival, leaving early is the only option.
— Leave bush fire prone areas the night before or early in the day – do not wait and see what happens.
— Make a decision about when you will leave, where you will go, how you will get there and when you will return.

— Homes are not designed to withstand fires in catastrophic conditions so you should leave early.
The RFS said people with special needs, including the elderly or people with a disability, should always leave before the threat of bush fire.
