Residents surrounding a busy Sydney Metro station in Sydney’s northwest are in uproar over the excessive volumes used for announcements at the Sydney Metro station — which are blasted from the station from 6am to 9pm daily.
Karen, who lives 400 metres from the Kellyville Metro, has consistently raised noise concerns over announcements since the network opened on May 26, and has called on Transport for NSW and Sydney Metro to address the issue.
“I currently have three different cases with Transport for NSW, trying to get them to do their job instead of ignoring a major issue for residents,” she said.
“No one at the station has been able to assist me, we hear about changes to the network, track work or special event announcements from 6am to 9pm everyday.”
The fed up residents, who will meet with a Sydney Metro environmentalist on November 29, said the announcements are preventing their children from sleeping.
“At least half a dozen residents have made official complaints with Transport for NSW,” Karen to the Hills Shire Times.
“People have had enough of this, they are selling up and leaving.”
A Sydney Metro spokesman said it has made several changes to sound levels of announcements at Kellyville Station.
“This includes playing only mandatory announcements after the evening peak and lowering the volume of these announcements,” the spokesman said. “MTS has carried out several tests to monitor volume levels and ensure announcements stay within the strict noise standards set in the project’s environmental licence and planning approval.
“Systems and technology associated with operating the new metro line are being fine-tuned. MTS will continue to check and review the announcement levels on a regular basis.”
