Dedicated Sydney FC teenager Amy Sayer misses Schoolies to prepare for W-League opener
Her schoolmates are out celebrating the end of their exams but this teenager is knuckling down as she prepares for the start of the 2019/20 W-League.
While most teenagers want to celebrate the end of their Higher School Certificate exams with Schoolies celebrations, Amy Sayer has a different plan.
She won’t be living it up at regular schoolies haunts on the Gold Coast, Byron Bay and even Bali the next few weeks. She’ll be hanging out with a group of women with the same goal - defending Sydney FC W-League crown.
The teenager, who turns 18 at the end of the month, finished her last HSC exam and celebrated by attending Sydney FC at their training ground at Macquarie Park.

“No schoolies for me. I wouldn’t go crazy anyway,” said the Barker College Hornsby student, who lives at Middle Cove.
“I don’t mind missing Schoolies. It’s not really my scene.
“I’m doing training and playing games instead. That is bigger for me.”
Sayer, who made her Matildas debut in 2018 at the Tournament of Nations, played just a single game for Sydney FC last season with a stress fracture sidelining her for five month and all international duties with the Matildas.
Now I just want to have a big Sydney FC season to get back out the radar
Her schooling them ruled her out of the Young Matildas most recent overseas campaign at the Asia u19 championships.
“I can go wait to have a great season after missing so much,” said Sayer, who plays in the National Premier League with the North West Sydney Koalas based at Macquarie.
“It was hard. I was just breaking into the Matildas and then missed almost all the Sydney FC season.

“I was still around the team, did my rehab with Sydney FC which was great.
“And then because of my HSC and the exams falling right across the same period I decided it was better to pull out the whole tournament which was hard.
“Now I just want to have a big Sydney FC season to get back out the radar.
Ellie Brush, Remy Siemsen and Mackenzie Hawkesby are new faces this season at Sydney FC.
