At the age of four, star striker Remy Siemsen knew what she wanted to be.
But there was a problem, quite a big one in fact.
“My parents did say when I was four that I said wanted to play for the Socceroos,” said the W-League player.
“So playing in a national team has been my goal for a long time.
“I just assumed I could do the same thing as my mates and be a Socceroo. I didn’t really realise that was for the boys.”

SECOND CHANCE: Former NRL gun’s new challenge
Eventually armed with the knowledge she could be a Matilda, rather than a Socceroo, Siemens played in a girls team with Manly United from the age of 10 to 17 and is now heading into her fourth W-League season.
After a season with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Siemsen has been signed back on with her old club Sydney FC for the upcoming W-League and the young gun couldn’t be happier to be back in the sky blue.
I was best mates with boys and they all loved the sport. They pushed me to be better becaus they wanted to be better
Like most of her teammates, Siemsen is working or studying part time while forging her sporting career.
In Siemsen’s case the 19-year-old from French’s Forest is doing both - picking up shifts at her local bowling club and studying interior architecture online.
And for the next few months she will add intense training and weekly games into her busy schedule.

“I just love my football, loved it forever,” the teenager said.
“My older brother played with the Wakehurst Tigers and mum and dad said I used to run onto the pitch and get into it so they signed me up with the Belrose Terry Hills Raiders.
“I loved it from the get go. I actually did a lot of sport growing up. I gave everything a go - netball, softball, cricket, swimming, touch, cross country. Everything I could think of, I did.”
Siemsen said playing alongside boys at a young age honed her competitiveness.
“I was always fascinated by it, I was best mates with boys and they all loved the sport,” she said. “They pushed me to be better becaus they wanted to be better.”
So good did she become she signed with Sydney FC while at school and made her W-League debut against the Wanderers, winning the players of the year and golden boot with the club the same season.
“In 2016/17 I was with Sydney FC and I played every game and came off the bench and scored four goals. We were grand finalists. I love playing for them.”
Last season she played for the Wanderers before re-signing with Sydney FC this off-season.
Sydney FC are defending champions and have retained 15 members of their 2019 Grand Final winning squad for their title defence.
GWS Giant AFLW star Ellie Brush will make her Sydney FC debut with Mackenzie Hawkesby another new face.
Westfield Matildas FIFA World Cup stars Caitlin Foord, Alanna Kennedy and Chloe Logarzo are also in the team.
Their first game is part of a double-header with the men’s team against Melbourne Victory at Jubilee Oval on November 17.
