POLICE have praised two men for conducting a citizen’s arrest after an 89-year-old woman was allegedly struck on the head.
A woman in her fifties was ordered to get off a bus in Neutral Bay after becoming agitated.
She then allegedly assaulted an elderly woman and a 19-year-old who were walking by on the street.
Aden Barclay was walking on Military Rd when he heard a woman screaming.
“She tried to run off and I braced her,” he said.
Mr Barclay said the teen was shaken up but the elderly woman was fine.
Neither required admission to hospital.
Acting Inspector Tom Aylett from North Sydney Police praised the two witnesses who made the arrest.
“They detained her to prevent further assaults and her escaping until police arrived,” he said.
“A lot of people would understandably not get involved. They have done well to assist.”
The woman was conveyed to hospital by ambulance after police attended the scene.
