NORTH SYDNEY: A man who allegedly broke into a North Sydney resident’s home on Sunday afternoon pleaded with him not to call police, claiming he was “just a junkie”. The male resident had returned to his High St home at 1.30pm when he heard banging noises coming from downstairs. He went to investigate and discovered a man standing in a bedroom off a hallway. The man begged him not to call police, saying he was just looking for money to buy drugs. Police later attended where a forensic examination was completed and the suspect identified.

NORTH SYDNEY: A man who allegedly cracked the windscreen of a police car with his hands had evidence of the act recorded on a friend’s mobile phone. About 9.50pm on Friday two men in their early 20s had left a pub on the Pacific Highway at Crows Nest when one of them approached a parked police car on West St and forcefully hit the car’s windscreen with his hands. A witness saw the incident and the males quickly left, however they were later apprehended at St Leonards Park. Police later interviewed both offenders where it was revealed one of the offenders had recorded the incident on his mobile phone.

CAMMERAY: A motorcycle rider was arrested on Christmas Day after allegedly speeding on the Warringah Freeway. Prior to stopping the motor cycle, police also observed the rider to be riding the motorcycle erratically in and out of traffic lanes. The rider of the cycle was further searched where police detected illicit drugs. The rider was later conveyed to Royal North Shore Hospital where a blood and urine sample was obtained. The rider has been issued a Court Attendance Notice.

ARTARMON: Two young women were arrested by police last week after allegedly committing graffiti offences in the Lane Cove tunnel. About 11.50pm on January 13, Harbourside Police went to the tunnel after information was received from the security office that two juvenile females were committing graffiti offences. Police attended and intercepted two female juveniles on the walkway adjacent to the Gore Hill Freeway and both were apprehended at the scene. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras. The two females, from the Berowra area, were searched and found to be in possession of graffiti equipment. They were issued court attendance notices.

CROWS NEST: Police issued a penalty notice to a 42-year-old man for allegedly riding a children’s scooter through the Cross City Tunnel last week. The man attended Surry Hills Police Station and informed officers that he was the person in footage broadcast on TV news channels. He was interviewed by Central Metropolitan Region Highway Patrol police and later issued with a penalty notice for ‘use wheeled device on one-way road more than one marked lane’, which carries a fixed penalty of $71. Acting Assistant Com-missioner Stuart Smith reminded road users to behave responsibly.
