FROM the team behind The Greens comes The Alcott, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and spritz bar with a stunning sun-dappled terrace.
Opening its doors last Friday, the new venue takes over from the Lane Cove Club on Birdwood Ave.
The 200-seater restaurant and bar was designed by Pony Design Co, the same studio that kitted out The Fernery, and features a number of intimate drinking and dining spaces, split over three levels.
Inside, the venue has been extensively refurbished to include blonde timbers, marble surfaces and sparkling gold fixtures, which work to create a luxe mid-century style setting.
Warmth and personality has been added through artworks and preloved finds, while soft furnishings, such as sheepskin cushions and woollen throws, add cosy living-room vibes.
The Alcott also has its very own open-air terrace, dressed in soft neutrals with an elaborate Palm Springs cactus garden.
The kitchen is headed up by Richard Slarp, formerly of Sake Restaurant & Bar and Est, who has created a vibrant mod Med menu of fresh seafood dishes and smoky chargrilled meats.
“We have designed the menu to be shared among friends just like all great Mediterranean meals,” says Richard.
“It’s fresh, it’s wholesome and incorporates a variety of flavours and complementary textures. We want this to be a spot where locals can come a few times a week, and have a meal that’s of the same quality they would expect from dining precincts in the city and east.”
House specialties include the fragrant twice-cooked lamb ribs tossed with toasted almonds and coriander and the Berrima baby octopus, a tangle of chargrilled tentacles, cucumber, mint and roasted chilli.
For those lounging on the terrace, there’s also food for the fingers, from crunchy fried cauliflower in smoked paprika salt, a summery crushed pea dip with chargrilled Turkish bread and Italian cheeses with truffle honey, muscatels and lavosh.
For those in denial about winter, The Alcott also has its own dedicated spritz bar, which will serve Italian aperitivo cocktails, made from fresh seasonal fruits and botanicals, topped with prosecco.
Hoping to retain its position as a community-centric space, The Alcott has already launched a full program of events, from art workshops, comedy nights to live acoustic sessions.
If you’re planning to drop by, note that the venue will continue to operate as a NSW Registered Club, which will mean those who live within a five kilometre radius will need to be signed in or join up as a member.
