FOUR Frogs Creperie has spawned a fourth venue, with the new French eatery hopping into a spot in Lane Cove.
“We had huge demand from our existing customers to open in Lane Cove, and the area is close to where we live so it was a no-brainer for us,” says Florian Guillemard, one of the “four frogs” who own the popular crepe chain.
The new 60-seater creperie will be a tad nicer than its siblings, with Florian and the team pulling out all the stops to create a stylish and comfortable space.
“We’ve done more with this venue than the others, we’ve really worked hard to make it cosy,” he says.
Conceived by MorrisCo Designs, the space features black and white striped banquettes, a French cider display and an artist-created storyboard.
For the first time, the Lane Cove iteration will have its very own takeaway window, à la the trend in France.
The menu will be the same as in Mosman and elsewhere, and include a selection of lacy French crepes, drizzled in maple syrup or Nutella, and the buckwheat galettes, stuffed with savoury toppings.
If you’re looking for recommendations, Florian says the most popular galette is the spinach, feta, mushroom and avocado. “It has a very Australian brunch feel,” he says.
For the crepes, the Nutella and strawberry is narrowly surpassed by the homemade salted caramel crepe with grilled almonds and white chocolate ice-cream.
“We do monthly specials as well. We try to have fun with it, and they are always very popular with our regulars,” says Florian.
Past specials include a vegemite galette for Australia Day, a garlic and parsley snail galette, and a lychee, raspberry and rose crepe.
To celebrate Bastille Day on July 14, the team have a special truffle galette up their frilly French sleeve.
To accompany the crispy offerings, Florian recommends glass of French cider, which is the traditional accompaniment in Brittany, where both crepes and Florian come from.
“It is a tradition to drink cider with crepes and we import our cider from France. The flavour is a little more savoury than what you usually get here,” he says.
Four Frogs serve three types of cider, an apple, pear and rose cider, the latter is made from red skinned apples, giving it a unique pink colour and bright, crisp taste.
The Four Frogs drinks list also includes French champagne, Ricard pastis — a licorice liqueur from Marseilles and Belgian hot chocolate.
