NORTH shore stalwart the Greengate Hotel has unveiled the Greengate Terrace, a vintage-inspired restaurant and bar with sprawling alfresco area.

The new venue will be led by Joshua Luff and Brett Windley, two former managers from Aria.

“After talking to our local clientele, we felt there was an opportunity to create a new dining space in the Greengate Hotel that would bring new life to the iconic venue,” said general manager Luff.

“It gives the local community somewhere to socialise or celebrate occasions just as families have done there for generations.”

As part of the relaunch, the Greengate Terrace has been given a sleek makeover, revealing warm timbers, natural stone and aged-brass detailing. Lush potted greenery is also a feature.

The space was designed by Emilie Delalande from Studio Etic, the same studio responsible for Matt Moran’s Barangaroo House.

“Emilie was inspired by the character of the building for the look and feel of the new terrace.”

“The fit-out has a modern aspect which is respectful of the hotel’s core values of heritage, quality and simplicity,” says Luff.

The Terrace will also boast a sophisticated new food offering, created by head chef Robert O’Callaghan, formally of Reveille Restaurant in Balmain.

The menu will be flexible and include small plates all the way up to a four course dining experience.

For snacking, guests can graze on the chargrilled octopus with pistachio and fresh, lemony taramasalata or the burrata, perched on a nest of colourful, locally-grown heirloom tomatoes, doused in basil oil and crumbled with pangrattato.

For more substantial eats, bigger groups can tuck into the larger shared portions, which includes a whole baby snapper with finger lime and herb salad, or the restaurant’s signature dish, the slow-cooked lamb shoulder with green beans and pesto. There’s also simple sides to help pad out the meal.

“The varied, seasonal menu has been designed to ensure there is something for everyone, Champagne and oysters, craft beer with fish and chips, Ranger’s Valley sirloin with a glass of Aussie red,” said head chef, Robert O’Callaghan.

Sugar fiends will appreciate the short but sweet dessert list, which includes pineapple carpaccio with coconut sorbet as well as a silken chocolate tart dolloped with a piquant crème fraiche.

As the name suggests, there will also be a leafy terrace, which is set to be one of the largest outdoor spaces on the north shore.

Guests will be able to sip local wines, craft beers and seasonal cocktails in the terrace, which will be heated during the cooler months.
