IT’S a choice only a multi-millionaire could have: Kirribilli or Point Piper?
Newly elected Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull hasn’t changed his mind on making the move across the harbour.
He’s sticking with his decision to stay in his sprawling eastern suburbs mansion while in Sydney.
And with Kirribilli House looking decidedly lonesome as a result, the Mosman Daily asked local experts what it could be used for.
Real estate agent Mark Jackson, principal at Belle in Neutral Bay, reckons it could fetch enormous rent.
“A sum of $25,000 a week sounds crazy but it’s not,” he said. “If it came on the market, with whose house it is ... you could get that.”
Homes in the suburb can achieve up to $5000 a week and Mr Jackson pointed out that Kirribilli House was in another league.
He said it could be even used as an exclusive hotel or perhaps as a film location.
Holiday rental website Stayz also believe it has potential as a tourist hotspot.
“Boasting 10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a jacuzzi that comfortably fits nine and a 48-burner barbie, Kirribilli House has the potential to be one of Sydney’s hottest holiday homes,” said marketing director David Dunstan.
“Similar Stayz rentals on the North Shore are priced from $2000 to $5,000 per night – the demand is there, so why not list it, we say!”
Kirribilli House will be available for use under the charities program, which will reopen shortly.
It will also be used for hospitality by the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers for official events.
