A TIP-OFF from the public has given Hotel Mosman a potential lead in the case of the “herpes-obsessed” vandal.
The Mosman Daily reported last month that a man had used texta or liquid paper and more recently, a sharp implement to scratch the tag “herpes” into surfaces including tables and the men’s toilet doors.
The Duck’s (the pub’s affectionate name) owner, Brendon Barry, is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the “insipid little cockroach”.
Mr Barry hopes to ban the vandal for life from all Sydney hotels.
Licensee Peter Crocker said on Friday that management had reviewed CCTV footage and was gathering information to hand to the police.
“We have had some information from the public and we do have a lead, possibly,” he said.
“We are just finalising the details, trying to get the identity of the person.
“We have not seen any further graffiti in the venue, so that’s good.”
The hotel is still in the process of eradicating the vandal’s damage, estimated to cost thousands of dollars.
Mr Crocker said the vandalism had become a talking point among patrons.
“The reaction from the public has been quite helpful,” he said.
“Everyone keeps inquiring about whether he’s been caught or what the progress is, because they are unhappy with him.
“All of the locals have voiced their opinions about the vandal and their disappointment and disgrace at the vandalism.”
