Big Music at Crows Nest among world’s top 100 stores

A SYDNEY music store helps rock star fantasies become realities — and now it’s in line for a major international award.

ROCK star fantasies have become realities, thanks to the team at Big Music.

The Crows Nest store teaches both adults and kids how to play like their favourite musicians.

And now the shop has been named as one of the top 100 dealers in the world.

“We always focused on being a music store that makes everyone feel welcome,” managing director Richard Berkman said.

“Our philosophy is if we enabled people to play the music they love, they will get more inspired.”

Parents often tell the team the music lessons have been a life-changing experience for their children.

The music school has about 10 bands for children, and another 10 for adults.

“They are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to fulfil their lifelong dream to stand up on a stage and be a rock star,” Mr Berkman said.

“It’s quite amazing seeing kids watching their parents. It completely changes the kids’ perspective of who their parents are.”

The store has had plenty of celebrity customers since it opened eight years ago.

Keith Urban bought a guitar there, and other famous visitors include rapper RZA, Richard Clapton and Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens.

The awards ceremony will take place in Nashville in July.
