Two high speed police pursuits in Sydney — involving two separate crashes — ended with a man allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen Mercedes being arrested on Friday afternoon.
The man, 23, was allegedly driving the sedan that had been stolen from a home at Killara, on the city’s North Shore, when officers tried to pull it over at 12.50pm, police said.
Police allege the man sped away from officers at Roseville, prompting the first chase.
Officers terminated the pursuit moments later when the Mercedes was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Boundary St, Roseville.
“A short time later, officers from Northern Beaches Highway Patrol saw the vehicle in Narraweena (on the northern beaches) and re-engaged in a pursuit,” a police spokesman said.
“The Mercedes sedan was then involved in a second crash on Consul St, Narraweena, which disabled the vehicle.”
Debris from the car, which slammed into kerb, was left on the corner of Consul and Warringah roads.
Early on Friday evening, the alleged driver was charged at Manly police station with seven offences including taking and driving a conveyance without owner’s permission, aggravated break and enter; police pursuit (not stop, drive dangerously); unlicensed driving; and refusing a drug test.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
