A Mid-North Coast real estate agent pulled over by cops in his Audi after having “a line of cocaine with a mate” also had methamphetamine in his system – but it wasn’t his first time drug-driving.
Todd Myles Hinsby from Forster pleaded guilty to driving his white Audi A5 Coupe with an illicit drug in his system and was sentenced in Taree Local Court on Tuesday. He now plans to appeal his sentence.
Magistrate Allison Hawkins fined him $850 and disqualified him from holding a driver’s licence for six months.
Soon after the sentence Hinsby’s lawyer Gus Farland lodged an appeal with the district court.
It’s not the first time the 38-year-old has been caught driving while affected by drugs and this was reflected in the special ‘second offence’ nature of the charge.
In his most recent offending, Hinsby was stopped by police for a random breath test at the Mobil service station at 127 The Lakes Way, Forster about 10am on December 13 last year.
Asked if he had taken illegal drugs recently, Hinsby admitted to using cocaine and an oral fluid test was carried out by officers.
The results showed both methylamphetamine (ice) and cocaine in Hinsby’s system.
Hinsby’s appeal is next listed in the Taree District Court on September 23.
