A Kempsey correctional officer allegedly stowed a 30 gram pouch of tobacco and two mobile phone chargers in a plastic bag, before placing it in a bin inside the Mid-North Coast Correctional Centre for collection by an inmate, according to court documents.
Louise Margaret Bud, 50, did not enter a plea at Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday, where her matter was adjourned to November 25.
The Port Macquarie woman, who is on leave from her duties, is facing one count of unlawfully secreting a thing for an inmate to receive.
Police allege in court documents that on July 13, Bud placed a plastic bag inside a green waste bin at the Mid North Coast Correctional Centre, West Kempsey, which contained a tobacco pouch and two mobile phone chargers.
She was arrested and charged at Port Macquarie Police station on September 1 - a day before her 50th birthday - before being released on bail.
The 50-year-old has no prior record of offending, having only appeared before court on one traffic-related matter in 2018.
Police believe their case for a prosecution is strong, alleging in court documents there is CCTV evidence of the incident.
She will reappear in court on November 25.
