Kempsey: Police allege rifles, ammunition, power tools stolen during break and enter

A second man has been charged on Friday in relation to an aggravated break and enter at a property west of Kempsey in 2019. Police allege he was one of four men who forced entry to the Wittitrin property before stealing several rifles, ammunition, and power tools. No one was home at the time.

A 26-year-old man faced Kempsey Local Court on Friday charged with multiple aggravated break and enter offences on the Mid-North Coast last year.

Detectives from the Mid-North Coast Rural Crime Prevention Team commenced an investigation into two separate break and enter offences on Thursday July 4, 2019.

Police will allege he was a member of a group of men – one of whom, 25, has already been charged – that stole a Toyota Hilux utility from a property on Macleay Valley Way, Clybucca, before travelling to a property on Bears Rd Wittitrin, about 40km west of Kempsey.

Police will further allege he forced entry to the Wittitrin property before stealing several rifles, ammunition, and power tools. No one was home at the time.

On Thursday, police charged the 26-year-old who they stopped while driving a silver Holden Commodore on Gladstone St, West Kempsey, shortly after 8pm.

Four men were inside the vehicle and they were all arrested and taken to Kempsey Police Station.

He was charged with five offences, including two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company, and one count each of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, use, supply etc stolen firearm or firearm part and supply, give ammunition to person not authorised.

The other men in the vehicle – all aged between 24 and 40 – were charged with unrelated offences, including outstanding warrants and breach of bail.

All four men were refused bail to appear at Kempsey Local Court on Friday.
