A man has been charged after he and an accomplice allegedly carjacked a woman sitting in her car at West Kempsey, assaulting and dragging her from the vehicle.
Mid North Coast Police District officers allege Ivan Vale and a co-offender took the 23-year-old victim’s phone before hopping in the car and trying to start it up.
A passing member of the public went to the woman’s aid and the men allegedly smashed two of the vehicle’s windows and ran from the scene, according to police.
It’s alleged the botched carjacking took place about 9pm on June 18, while the woman was sitting in her car parked on Polwood St.
She did not know the two men who allegedly attacked her.
Police were called and an investigation was launched under Strike Force Trow.
Officers arrested a 22-year-old man at Greenhill about 8pm on Monday.
Police then searched the man’s home and allegedly found tyres and rims stolen from a Hyundai Santa Fe which had been parked on Polwood St the day before the carjacking.
The man was charged with stealing, robbery in company and possessing a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and faced Kempsey Local Court on Tuesday, June 20, where bail was refused.
