Residents have been evacuated from their homes in the early hours of Thursday morning after a fire ignited on the state’s Mid North Coast.

Forty-one people have been displaced after a fire engulfed an apartment block in Taree.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to 41 Ronald Rd at 1.26am and it took them three hours to extinguish the fire.

“The fire is out and investigators have been sent up from Sydney,” a FRNSW spokesman said.

Residents were notified about the fire from a smoke alarm with 12 of the 18 units impacted by the blaze.

One person jumped out of the building from the second level to escape the fire and has been taken hospital with an arm injury.

Dogs will be assisting with the investigation to figure out how the fire started.

Firefighters remain on the scene.
