Aleksander Mahone charged with domestic violence offences

An alleged bikie has offered a bizarre explanation as to why he alleges his ex-partner made up claims he choked and whipped her with a belt, a court has heard.

Alleged Rebels member charged

An alleged Rebels bikie has claimed his ex-partner made up allegations he choked and assaulted her because she lied about her age, a court has heard.

Aleksander Mahone, 31, was charged with two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, intentional choking and contravening an apprehended violence order pertaining to allegations dating between 2018 and 2023.

Police allege Mahone is a member of the Rebels bikie gang, after they found the gang’s colours at his Canley Heights address when he was arrested on March 28.

At Fairfield Local Court on March 29, Magistrate Stuart Devine detailed the police allegations of domestic violence.

“In 2018 it’s alleged he punched the victim in the face, causing swelling to the right side of her jaw,” Mr Devine said.

Mr Devine said Mahone was also alleged to have used his hand to choke her for a number of seconds until another male pulled him off the woman in January 2021.

Police then sought an interim AVO for the woman’s protection after she made a complaint in December 2022, which Mahone is alleged to have breached in March 2023 by texting and emailing her.

The court heard the woman had provided photo and video evidence of the injuries allegedly caused by the assaults.

Mahone’s solicitor Abdul Saddik entered pleas of not guilty and sought the alleged bikie’s release on bail, providing a bizarre explanation for why his client alleges the claims have been made up.

“He was married to a woman he believed was years younger than him,” Mr Saddik told the court.

“These complaints seem to arrive after the discovery of the complainant’s real age, and status in that she has grandchildren.”

Mr Devine said he would give little weight to this claim.

“She’s got grandchildren so she made up these domestic violence allegations? That carries little to no weight,” Mr Devine warned.

The magistrate likewise gave little weight to a prosecution submission Mahone is allegedly under investigation for sexual assault and setting a house on fire in Western Australia, where the couple briefly resided before returning to southwest Sydney.

The court heard Mahone has a single entry on his NSW criminal record - a conviction and $200 fine for driving with an expired licence in 2021 - and that the charges would be vigorously defended.

Due to Mahone’s limited record and the possibility he may not serve a custodial sentence even if he is found guilty of the offences, Mr Devine granted bail.

Mahone will have to report daily to Cabramatta police, reside at his Canley Heights rental, abstain from contacting the complainant and have an acceptable person put up a $30,000 security to ensure he appears at court as required.
