A woman who allegedly stabbed a man with scissors, leaving him with a collapsed lung, has been denied bail.
Raquel Elen Tae De Ohata, 37, appeared at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday after she was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The police prosecutor told the court Ohata, of Coogee, had allegedly stabbed the man in the back in the “public domain”.
In a statement, a NSW Police spokesman said emergency services were called to Bundock St, Randwick, about 6.30pm Monday following reports a man had been stabbed.
Paramedics treated the man for a laceration and was taken to St George Hospital. The court later heard the man had suffered a collapsed lung.
Magistrate Ross Hudson said, when summarising the police facts, said following the alleged act of violence the victim Jian Wu, who knew Ohata, was heard saying “she stabbed me”.
A number of items were seized from Ohata’s address during a search warrant, including two pairs of scissors.
The court heard police will allege they found clothes “which [Ohata] is said to be wearing” in the washing machine.
The police prosecutor opposed bail, submitting there was a risk of Ohata failing to appear for future court appearances. He said “considering the seriousness” of the offence, a custodial sentence is possible.
Ohata’s lawyer told the court her client had lived in Australia since 2008, having moved from Brazil and has “no other offences of this nature on her record”.
She said Ohata hasn’t made admissions to the offence and could report to Randwick police station “at any frequency”.
Ohata was ultimately denied bail and the matter was adjourned to May 25 at Downing Centre Local Court.
