A man has been charged with murder following the mysterious death of a “true blue Aussie gentleman” in the state’s Orana region earlier this year.
Warren resident, Clinton Beau Wrigley, 39, appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday for the alleged murder of Nyngan farmer Joel Carter.
According to court documents, police allege Mr Wrigley murdered Mr Carter between 6pm on January 22 and 7.45am on January 25 in Miandetta - 25km from Nyngan.
His solicitor, Uzma Sherieff, told the court Mr Wrigley would not make a release application.
She said her client was “supported by his family” in the court room.
Magistrate Aaron Tang said the “serious” matter would be further addressed.
Mr Wrigley will appear for a further mention in Dubbo Local Court via an audio video link on May 25.
Emergency services were called to a home on Gilgai Rd at Miandetta – after concerns were raised for the welfare of the resident on about 7.45am on Wednesday, January 25.
Police located the body of a man inside the property, a few days after his death, who has been formally identified as 59-year-old man Joel Carter.
Mr Carter died from significant head trauma, an investigation found.
Strike Force Namadgi was created to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Carter’s death.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested Wrigley during a vehicle stop on Garden Ave at Ravenswood – about 120km east of where Mr Carter’s was located – at about 3.30pm on Tuesday, March 28.
He was taken to Warren Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
Police will allege that Wrigley – who was known to Mr Carter – assaulted him at the property before stealing his car and driving away.
Investigations under Strike Force Namadgi are ongoing.
Mr Carter has been described as a “true blue Aussie gentleman” by friends and family.
