Car through front fence at Port Macquarie on NSW Mid-North Coast

A Mid-North Coast mother is fed up with drivers speeding along her street – now a car has smashed through her front fence, and she says her son could have easily been killed.

Port Macquarie woman Alexsandra Covek said if it had been last week, with daylight savings, her six-year-old son Nathaniel would have been in the very spot the car went through her front yard just after 6pm.

A Mid-North Coast mother said she is fed up with drivers speeding along her street, after a car ploughed right through her front fence.

Port Macquarie woman Alexsandra Covek said if it had been last week, with daylight savings, her six-year-old son Nathaniel would have been in the very spot the car went through her front yard just after 6pm.

She lives on Kennedy Drive and says the situation is getting worse, with people flying along the straight stretch of road.

“We were sitting in the lounge room with our six-year-old son,” Ms Covek said.

“It sounded like the car was coming into our house.”

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed that officers were called around 6.30pm following reports that a sedan had crashed into a fence.

There were no injuries and the driver was tested and returned a negative random breath test the spokesperson said.

No charges were laid and there is no suggestion speed was a factor in this incident.

“There will be no further police investigation on this,” the spokesman added.

Ms Covek purchased her house in November 2023 and says the situation has been getting worse in recent times.

She is still tallying the cost of the damage to her front garden, including the destruction of a brand new fence.

“Yes it has been getting worse – massive speeding all the time,” she said.

“Especially our leg of road being straight for young ones to race on.”

Ms Covek has called for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to consider putting in speed bumps along the road.

“A child is going to be killed one day because speed is not regulated on this road,” Ms Covek said.
