A whole year 12 teaching group at a secondary school on the northern beaches has been voted “Best Teacher” in a special Manly Daily poll.
The newspaper asked its readers to name the local teacher who goes above and beyond their normal duties to make sure children are receiving the best education and attention they can.
But, in a quirky result, readers were so impressed with the teachers who take Year 12 Higher School Certificate classes at St Augustine’s College at Brookvale, that they couldn’t name just one individual — so they voted for them all.
In 2021, the Catholic high school for boys from year 5 to 12, had 179 Year 12 students — currently sitting their HSC exams — and 60 Year 12 teachers.
In a glowing tribute to the hard work and dedication of the year 12 teachers, College principal Jonathan Byrne told the Manly Daily that the college values focus on “truth, love and community.
“Over the last two years our Year 12 teachers have exemplified our values, making them visible to the Class of 2021,” Mr Byrne said.
“Our HSC students have seen staff invest time, care and enthusiasm and personal challenge into their growth.”
Mr Byrne also thanked the Manly Daily readers who voted in the “Best Teacher on the Northern Beaches” poll.
“We are honoured that the community has recognised the outstanding role our teachers have played in supporting our HSC students.
“We wish our Class of 2021 all the best and know that our teachers have developed in them a set of values that will support their growth and development into fine men.”
The senior staff were not able to prepare the usual send-of and Graduation Ceremony for year 12, but were able to organise a special Year 12 Graduation breakfast.
Students were able to drive though the school have their photos taken with staff, while seated in their cars, and were given a breakfast pack to share with their family at home while Zooming in to the Graduation ceremony instead.
