The winner of the best hairdresser on the northern beaches is an entrepreneur with more than 20 years’ experience in the business.
Naomi Browner, of Bare Beauty House on Pittwater Rd, Manly, started her career as an apprentice at Rose Bay, before travelling to the US to gain more experience.
She then opened her own salon, before heading up operations of four salons in the UK.
Now back on the northern beaches she has launched a new business called Bare Beauty House, offering sustainable and cruelty-free products that are kind for the body and the environment.
“It’s amazing to be named best hairdresser, I’m very honoured,” Ms Browner, 34, of Manly Vale, said.
“I’d like to thank all the people who have supported me and made me feel welcome.”
The colour master who specialises in blondes, said most hair salons aren’t known for being kind to the environment, with high water usage, chemicals used in treatments and colours, high power usage and product waste.
But to her running a sustainable business was very important.
“My love of animals, marine life, and nature have always driven me to become a better person and make better choices,” she said.
“I decided enough was enough. The ocean is suffering because of our negligence, and I needed to do something different within my industry that could impact my local community and encourage us all to make some positive changes.”
All salon waste is recycled through a company called Sustainable Salons and the salon uses special shower heads which purifies water and reduces the amount needed by 65 per cent.

Congratulations to Joshua Carr, artistic director at Elle J Hair in Brookvale, who came second in our poll.
Mr Carr, originally from the UK, is living the dream after moving to the northern beaches.
He specialises in long hair colouring and styling. He uses various different techniques to create tonal variation and textured dimension so that the colour continues to look great even as it starts to grow out.
