NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres has described the athlettics track at Narrabeen’s Sydney Academy of Sport as “an incredibly important community asset” while announcing a $1.2 million upgrade of the facility yesterday.
“It’s one of the only synthetic running tracks on the northern side of the harbour,” Mr Ayres said.
“It plays an incredibly important role for people across the northern beaches and it is a centre that people are attracted to from right across the state.
“As far as government investment goes this is a critical asset for us.”
And he said the track was utilised by many sports, not just athletics.
“A lot of people are going to benefit from this investment,” Mr Ayres said.
“It is also about us continuing to renew our assets.
“One of the things we work really hard on is making sure assets that are coming to the end of their life cycle will get replaced so they don’t drag out and become a safety risk.”
The work will involve laying a new track, an upgrade of the kiosk building and grandstand.
The work is set to commence in a few weeks and is expected to be finished in March.
