FORMER Sea Eagles skipper and champion centre Jamie Lyon believes it will be business as usual for the playing group after the club was issued with a salary cap breach notice by the NRL.
And he says the drama won’t derail the club’s 2018 premiership campaign before it has started.
During his distinguished career at the Sea Eagles, Manly was renowned for not allowing the off — field dramas, of which there was no shortage, to be a distraction to the team and often appeared to unite them even more.
“Especially in the Dessie (Hasler) days and all the players like Glenn Stewart, Brent Kite, Matty Ballin and Jason King,” said Lyon, who is now living on the north coast with his family.
“It didn’t really worry us, we didn’t really read papers or anything like that.
“It would unite us a bit.”
H said Manly has always been a successful club and people either loved or hated them.
“I guess it does build a bit of resilience.”
Lyon expects it to be the same with the current playing group.
“Baz (coach Trent Barrett) is from that same sort of era and a similar sort of country boy so I’m sure that would be his sort of philosophy too,” Lyon said.
“You’ve got the Trbojevics and (Daly) Cherry (Evans) who has been playing good footy so I’m sure they’ll be on the same lines.
“It’s not going to worry them once they come out on the field and you still have few months left (before the season begins).”
