“FRANKENSTEIN” has been resurrected as a rugby league player by the Sea Eagles- and get ready for him to start monstering opposition teams.
After three years out of the game backrower Frank Winterstein has been signed by Manly and in his second game against the Raiders last Saturday scored a try.
The 194cm 105kg forward has had the nickname “Frankenstein” since he was in primary school when his teachers had difficulty pronouncing his surname correctly.
The former Bulldog spent two years playing rugby in Japan before signing a six month contract with the Australian sevens team, who trained right next to the Sea Eagles at Narrabeen.
“I made a late bid to try and make the Olympic squad but unfortunately missed out,” Winterstein said.
During his lunchbreak he would watch the Sea Eagles going through their drills, never imaging he would play in the NRL again.
As it turned out the Sea Eagles were interested and Winterstein finished up with the sevens on Friday August 5, had the weekend off and began with the Sea Eagles on Monday morning.
“I’m still trying to work it out to be honest, but here I am now,” Winterstein said.
“Its been adventurous year, not too many people get a second chance to prove themselves in the NRL so with the opportunity I wanted to grab it with both hands.
“I’m just really glad I’ve had these last couple of games just to dust off the cobwebs before the end of the year and get a good pre-season under my belt and come into next year firing.”
