THE Sea Eagles will hold a crucial meeting with a NSW Government appointed panel seeking $10 million in funding for their proposed centre of excellence at Narrabeen on Friday minus one of the architects of the plan, former CEO Tim Cleary, who resigned on Friday.
It is business as usual for the NRL club following Cleary’s abrupt departure and that includes pushing ahead with the blueprint for the long overdue redevelopment of Brookvale Oval.
“I will be taking on an executive chairman role for now and (CFO) Neil Bare will be doing most of the heavy lifting from an organisational point of view,” said Sea Eagles owner Scott Penn.

Geoff Day from Penn Sports who has expertise in rugby league administration at several NRL clubs has also gone on board as a consultant.
Penn will be front and centre in the Manly delegation for Friday’s meeting that will also include Bare and a number of consultants.
“I was heavily involved in that anyway so I will certainly be leading the charge,” Penn said.
“There is an immediate focus on the centre of excellence given that that pool of funding has been announced and there is a specific time frame against that.
“We need to make sure we put our best foot forward as part of that process.
“And at the same time we are still working through the redevelopment at Brookie, but the important thing is to get that process right.”
Penn said as soon as the centre of excellence is put to bed then the Sea Eagles will be fully focused on “the fortress”.
He said the club was not in any rush to appoint a new CEO to replace Cleary.
“It’s important we get it right and we will be using some external advisers to make sure we do get the process right before embark on recruitment, ” Penn said.
