NSW surf life savers claims third crown with close win over Queensland

Northern beaches surf lifesavers Max Brooks and Zack Morris raced off with the elite and youth ironman titles as NSW shocked Queensland to claim a third straight interstate crown on the Sunshine Coast.
It was a NSW dominated podium in the elite racing with Australian champion Brooks beating Queenslander Cooper Williams, while Newcastle’s Dan Collins finished third.
In the youth race Morris held out Queensland’s Adam Palmer for the victory.

“It was a good result but this is about the team and the team won which is thee most important thing,’’ said Brooks, hoping for more success in a series of races, including the Shannon Eckstein classic in February.

Brooks was the most dominant male athletes at the intestates, also wining the open board and the open ski race
In other notable results, Newport’s Emily Doyle finished third in the youth ironwoman, won the youth ski race and finished second in the youth surf race .
North Bondi’s Noah Havard won the youth ski race while Umina’s Jemma Smith won the open ski race title and then the mixed ski relay with NSW Captain Mitchell Trim while
Grace Hewitt and Ace Haslam the youth beach sprints.
“We really focus on this and in the last few years we have picked ourselves NSW based people to reward everyone who sticks it out in the cold months,’’ Brooks said.
NSW beat Queensland by just six points at the event contested by 180 competitors from across the country.
