IT’S a development designed to increase the region’s aesthetic value and place the northern beaches on the must-do Sydney experience map — but not without your opinion first.
Northern Beaches Council is appealing for residents to make some noise and have their say on the latest proposed design plan for the Northern Beaches Coast Walk — a $1 million plan providing new footpath along the eastern side of Whale Beach Rd at Palm Beach, from Florida and Norma Rds.
The Coast Walk forms part of the Connected Communities Program, a $32 million infrastructure investment, co-funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund.
As part of the project, 35.5km of new cycleways and shared paths — 12.4km off road and 23.1km — will be delivered and completed by 2020. The Northern Beaches Coast Walk will also include new boardwalks, stairs, footpaths and tracks.
With 20 per cent of the coastal path having been completed, Mayor Michael Regan said council would next shift its focus on delivering the project from North Narrabeen Headland Reserve to Robert Dunn Reserve, along Narrabeen Park Parade and Hillcrest Avenue at Mona Vale.
“(This will be) followed by work to Whale Beach Rd, from Norma Rd to Florida Rd in Early 2019,” he said.
“The opening of a major section at Palm Beach from the ferry wharf to Governor Phillip Park will be completed in mid-2018.”
The next item on the agenda for council, as part of delivering the Northern Beaches Coast Walk, will be walkway upgrades at the southern end of Collaroy Beach — comprising of an accessible path way to Beach Rd, viewing platform and two additional unisex toilets near Collaroy Rockpool. The project is expected to be complete in July, along with landscaping and accessibility upgrade works at Marine Parade, Manly.
“We are soon to start community consultation n the Coast Walk Art Trail, which will really bring the walk to life through art, culture, history and storytelling,” Cr Regan said.
“We are proposing a number of consultations over the next three months and I encourage the community to give us their feedback to ensure things like design, access and safety form part of the review.”
