Northern beaches motorcyclist left on side of road after hit and run

CHILLING VIDEO: CCTV has captured the moment a young rider from the northern beaches scrambles for his life after a P-plate driver knocked him off his motorcycle and fled.

Motorcyclist's lucky escape

THIS is the chilling moment from a video showing a young rider from the northern beaches scrambling for his life after a P-plate driver knocked him off his motorcycle and fled.

Instead of stopping to check if the rider was hurt, the young woman driver reversed the car and then moved forward, almost running over a badly-injured Josh Grainger who struggled to get out of its path.

The security camera footage shows the driver, in her early 20s, then driving away, accelerating her Nissan Pulsar north along Pittwater Rd at Dee Why.

Mr Grainger, 24, of Elanora Heights, is left sprawled in pain on the roadway with a serious wound after the footpeg of his Kawasaki ZX-10R speared through his right boot.

The incident occurred during the busy evening peak period, about 6.10pm on Thursday, May 10.

Mr Grainger was legally riding north in the bus lane near the United Petroleum service station in Pittwater Rd, heading home after working at a motorcycle repair shop in Brookvale.

The Nissan, heading south, comes from his right and cuts across his path, before he T-bones his $25,000 motorcycle into the side of the car.

“I think she was trying to turn right into the service station from Pittwater Rd — or doing a U-turn — and just came across in front of me,” Mr Grainger said.

“After I went down she reversed back.

“Then the car came forward. I had my right leg on the car and had to pull my left leg out of the way or I would have been run over.”

An off-duty doctor, police officer and paramedic stopped their vehicles to help.

Mr Grainger said there was a front seat passenger in the Nissan.

“Two witnesses chased the car down Pittwater Rd and tried to stop her at a traffic light and told her to go back but she drove around them and turned off Pittwater Rd and stopped,” he said.

“They saw the male passenger and the female driver swap seats and drive off.”

Mr Grainger was taken by ambulance to Mona Vale Hospital.

Police have issued the driver with two infringement notices — failing to give way when turning right and failing to exchange details at the scene of an accident — with fines totalling $660 and the loss of six demerit points.
