North Narrabeen: Dee Why woman’s arm shattered after pinned to tree by her own car

Grim details have emerged about how a woman, who tried to stop her car rolling away, was agonisingly pinned by her arm to a tree on the northern beaches and was then able to make a desperate phone call for help.

A woman suffered multiple fractures when her arm was pinned and crushed against a tree by her own car at a quiet bush reserve on the northern beaches

The woman, 42, from Dee Why, was trying to stop her car rolling forward in a small car park just off Wakehurst Parkway, near Narrabeen Lagoon, when her arm became trapped on Monday.

Despite being in agonising pain from her shattered arm and barely able to talk, the distressed woman managed to make a triple zero call for help on her mobile phone.

Northern Beaches Police said the woman had parked her car at the eastern end of the Caleyi Trail, a popular bushwalking track stretching between North Narrabeen and Ingleside.

She had gone there alone to walk her dog just after 11.30am.

“The car started rolling forward after she got our of the vehicle and the woman has tried to stop it,” a police spokesman said.

“But she ended up with the car door pinning her by the arm against a tree.”

Despite the immense pain, police said the woman was able to reach for her mobile phone and somehow dial triple zero for an ambulance

Emergency personnel, included police and NSW Fire and Rescue officers, found the woman in so much pain that she could barely talk.

“She was not able to explain exactly, at the time, what had happened,” the police spokesman said.

The trunk of the tree was pushing her trapped arm and shoulder backwards at an odd angle. The tree was also pushing against the top of her chest.

When rescuers arrived at 11.40am they found the woman’s dog in the car.

NSW Fire and Rescue officers and ambulance paramedics worked to free the woman before she was taken by ambulance to Royal North Shore Hospital.

On Tuesday afternoon, she was still in hospital in a stable condition.
