A police officer was injured and at least two vehicles damaged — including a cop car — during a wild early morning pursuit on the northern beaches.
Nathan Christopher Plain, 31, had allegedly refused to stop when police tried to pull him over at Mona Vale on May 4, Manly Local Court has heard.
Plain, who lives at Mona Vale, allegedly damaged a police car and a vehicle belonging to a female motorist during the chase that began about 2.50am.
He also allegedly drove through a red traffic light at the intersection of Barrenjoey Rd and Park St in an effort to evade police.
Plain, who was driving his own car, was not arrested for another week after allegedly committing the offences, according to documents tendered to court on Thursday.
He is charged with one count each of police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, negligent driving and proceeding through a red traffic light.
Plain appeared in court, without a solicitor, on Thursday to seek an adjournment so that he could seek legal advice.
He told the court he had been previously assisted by Legal Aid when first arrested, but he had recently secured a job and was no longer entitled to free legal representation.
In a bail document tendered to court, police alleged that a “police vehicle was damaged” and that an officer “sustained a large bruise as a result of the vehicle colliding into him”.
It will also be alleged that he did not pull over despite “knowing that police officers were in pursuit”.
Plain then “drove the vehicle recklessly to others”, according to the documents.
He is yet to enter pleas to the charges.
The matter was adjourned to Manly court for plea or mention on July 10.
His conditional bail, which included an order that he not occupy the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle, was continued.
