A low-key marketing campaign has started to attract cashed-up seniors into a proposed new “premium” beachside retirement community, which includes penthouses, at Narrabeen.
Plans are being drawn up to transform the former Wesley Mission’s seniors’ accommodation facility on Ocean St into a luxury over-60s development named “Indigo by Moran”.
A private retirement village operator, Retirement by Moran, bought the 9200sq m, 90-bed Wesley Taylor Village and residential aged care home in October 2023.
In April 2023, Wesley announced it was closing its three remaining residential aged care homes, including Narrabeen and facilities at Sylvania and Caringbah.
Described by some in the industry as perhaps Sydney’s “last prime retirement village and care development site”, the Narrabeen site may end up with as many as 130 apartments.
Now Retirement by Moran, the village arm of Provectus Care, founded by Shane Moran, is scheduling a local information session about the proposed redevelopment.
A development application is yet to be lodged with Northern Beaches Council.
The company is currently allowing, in association with the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, crisis and temporary accommodation for local women in need.
But marketing material reveals “Indigo by Moran” would “provide quality retirement living” including two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as a “selection of penthouses”.
“There will be an extensive range of social and wellbeing amenities for the residents to enjoy as part of this inspiring, over-60s community, including a cinema, heated indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, cellar, library and extensive indoor/outdoor entertaining areas,” according to the marketing blurb.
Retirement by Moran managing director Sally Taylor told industry publication The Weekly Source it would develop the site as a substantial retirement village with a care component.
“We aim to develop a quality village, with extensive facilities, with around 120-130 beautiful apartments, that will meet the expectations of seniors on the northern beaches,” she said.
“Indigo by Moran” would join its other retirement villages: “Rose” at Wahroonga and “Sage” at Cronulla.
As part of the information sessions, on November 13 at the Narrabeen Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Retirement by Moran officials will unveil “concepts for our new retirement living development”.
It said it would also give potential residents an opportunity to contribute their own ideas and preferences “for their future home”.
