Manly Fast Ferry has stepped in to run the cancelled Barangaroo service.
The company, which is owned by NRMA, has decided to service the route on a short-term basis after Captain Cook Cruises pulled out saying the route was not financially viable.
Manly State MP James Griffin said he hoped the operator would decide to take on the commuter service full-time.
“I’m absolutely thrilled Manly Fast Ferry has stepped in to run the service,” the MP said.
“It is a great opportunity for them to improve and grow the route … the feedback from the community was loud and clear that Manly to Barangaroo was a key service used by many.”
The route has been run by Captain Cook Cruises for the past two years.
However, last month bosses said running the service had “placed a significant financial burden on the company” and, as a result, they would cease operations after September 13.
Mr Griffin vowed to secure another operator and at the eleventh hour the Manly Fast Ferry stepped in, commencing the service on Monday.
The service departs Manly Wharf 3 at 6.55am, 7.25am, 7.55am, 8.15am and 8.45am in the morning arriving at King Street Wharf 7 at 7.28am, 7.59am, 8.28am, 8.45am and 9.18am.
The ferry also stops at Milsons Point before arriving at Barangaroo and then Pyrmont Bay after.
The evening services run from King Street Wharf 7 at 16.35pm, 17.26pm, 17.56pm and 18.45pm arriving in Manly at 17.19pm, 17.57pm, 18.28pm and 19.15pm.
A return ticket costs $24.20.
“We are pleased to be able to provide the service over a short-term period and we are currently working with the government to ensure the service longer term,” a Manly Fast Ferry spokesman said.
