Plans have been submitted for a new hospital — just a stone’s throw from Northern Beaches Hospital.
The proposed GenesisCare private cancer treatment centre will be set over four levels with an additional three basement levels of carparking.
The near $20 million facility will have the latest in radiotherapy and chemotherapy and will offer pioneering clinical trials.
Genesis Care is also planning on building a sister facility in St Leonards.
Ben Ward, the company’s executive manager of oncology, said anyone receiving cancer treatment needs access to high quality care close to home.
“We are proud to bring two, new purpose-built facilities to provide the best possible care experiences to residents who live on the north shore, northern beaches and surrounding areas.
“As part of our commitment to designing better care, the services will also have a strong focus on research and clinical trials, providing patients with increased access and further bolstering GenesisCare’s innovation, research and development programs.”
The Frenchs Forest Rd East facility will be set across 2,099m2 and cater for 98 patients.
Plans, which have been submitted to Northern Beaches Council, reveal 58 car spaces over the three levels of basement parking.
On the hospital’s ground level there will be a pick up/loading zone, an ambulance bay, consulting rooms, a reception and waiting area, offices, workstations, staffroom and meeting rooms.
On level one there will be the CT room and control room as well as another reception and waiting area and a nurse/treatment room.
On the level two there will be patient bays, treatment rooms, a nurse station, lounge, waiting area, reception and a pathology lab.
On the top level will be another CT room as well as another reception, support room, interview room, offices, patient bays and an MRI facility.
The hospital will also have a linear particle accelerator machine which is used in treatment to destroy cancer cells.
The hospital is the latest medical facility in what is becoming a major health precinct on the northern beaches.
As well as the $600 million Northern Beaches Hospital, plans have also been submitted for a private hospital on Tilley Lane.
Many of the GenesisCare facilities services will put it in direct competition with Northern Beaches Hospital.
Industry experts say there is unmet demand for private healthcare on the northern beaches, adding that more facilities are expected in the area.
If approved the cancer treatment centre will provide 52 jobs.
The annual incidence of cancer in the Northern Sydney Local Health District is projected to increase from 4,968 in 2014 to 6,026 by 2024.
