THE humble shopping centre food court has gone from functional to fancy.

Centres are destinations and shopping is an experience that includes the food.

Modern makeovers now showcase rustic farmers’ markets, healthy and sustainable food options, Hamptons styling and even night time dining.

Style has played an important role in the $310 million redevelopment of Warringah Mall. Centre manager Karen Skinner said inspiration came from the farmer’s markets.

“The space has been styled to create a bright and lively farmer’s market vibe,” she said.

The marketplace food court features a wide cross section of healthy, ethical food offerings, as well as retail options.

From aged meat hanging in the window at The Natural Butcher by Craig Cook to Banana Blossom’s noodle bowls and returning businesses such as Swiss Deli. there’s always a lunch, quick snack or morning tea.

After a $60 million redevelopment, Glenrose Shopping Village now sports specialty stores, restaurants and parking for 520 cars.

Glenrose’s row of stylish eateries include Ajmer’s Indian, Momoko, Thai Kitchen, The New Civic and Stella Blu Italian and Pizzeria.

Before Stella Blu’s midyear opening, restaurateur Nick Salerno said his new restaurant would have a different feel to the Dee Why beach restaurant.

There’s more to come. Stage two of the centre is now leasing and will open in April 2017 with more shopping, fashion, services, health food and an Aldi.

The $87 million redevelopment of Warriewood Square has given the centre an upgraded light and airy food court.

Food offerings include a Three Beans Cafe, gluten-free cakes from Chicco Bar, healthy Japanese and Thai street food. Leaf cafe serves organic artisan breads and uses a Brookvale roaster for their signature coffee.
