DAVIDSON MP Jonathon O’Dea has thrown his support behind Gladys Berejiklian as the next leader of the Liberal Party and Premier of NSW.
Other contenders for the leadership including Planning Minister and Pittwater MP Rob Stokes, Transport Minister Andrew Constance, Energy Minister Anthony Roberts and Trade and Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres.
“I’ll be supporting Gladys,” Mr O’Dea said on Thursday.
Ms Berejiklian, who is Industrial Relations Minister, is a former schoolteacher and is widely respected in the party.
She has also managed to maintain a healthy distance from some of the State Government’s less popular decisions.
Ms Berejiklian also oversaw the long-term lease of the state’s poles and wires.
Mr Stokes is in England and could not be contacted for comment.
Health Minister Jillian Skinner has also reported today that she is backing Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian as the next premier of NSW.
“I make no secret I am supporting Gladys Berejiklian, I always have done,” Minister Skinner said.
“I regard myself as a bit of a mentor for Gladys and I think she would be an absolutely fabulous premier.
“She’s really got her head screwed on. She understands the importance of the economics of the state but also all of the things I’m involved in.”
