Breakfast spots on Sydney’s northern beaches

If you’re bored with the same old bacon and eggs, there are always plenty of places for a big breakfast with a difference?

Going out for breakfast has become a weekend ritual.

Look beyond the current craze for smashed avo on toast or acai bowls and there are plenty of interesting and hearty alternatives.

Newly renovated Avalon cafe Beco@Chelsea has a tapas-style breakfast that is perfect for two to share.

It is a popular choice with customers, says Rita Costa, who co-owns the cafe with her husband.

It is basically breakfast with the lot. The wide selection includes corn and zucchini fritters, eggs, bacon, sausages, haloumi, rocket, mushrooms, tomato relish, hash brown and toast.

This hearty feed is also available at their Mona Vale cafe Beco@Bungan.

Beco also sells branded coffee beans which are roasted for the business by Little Italy in Frenchs Forest.

For a clean-eating twist on a classic breakfast, Rough & Bare, the Scandi meets industrial laneway cafe in Mona Vale, is serving porchetta and eggs.

This signature dish has been reworked.

Slow-cooked, rolled pork belly replaces bacon and the dish comes with pasture-range poached eggs, baby kale and cress salad, spiced cauliflower hummus, kimchi and crackling crumb.

If you don’t fancy a coffee, cafe owner and head chef Anthony Milotic has selection of lattes, including one that is flavoured with medicinal mushrooms, cinnamon, maca powder, coconut oil and local honey.

Breakfast is anything but boring at Manly cafe Hakan’s, which moved from Rialto Square last winter to Manly Lodge Boutique Hotel.

It has a new spin on breakfast.

Foodie fans can work their way through a selection of more unusual ingredients on the Turkish breakfast-brunch menu.

There’s pekmez, which is a molasses-like syrup, cokelek, a yoghurt-cheese and sucuk, an Anatolian beef sausage.

For a taste of all three on one plate, try the Sultan’s Big Breakfast.

This dish includes poached eggs, nigella seeds, tomato, cucumber, avocado, fruit and toast.
