The phoenix-like rise of a Sydney based hospitality business from the ashes of financial collapse continues with plans for a $33m restaurant complex.

In one of its most ambitious projects, the Boathouse Group, which already has 12 outlets from the Central Coast to Wollongong, want to open three eateries on a semirural property on the northern beaches.

It would be named “The Farmhouse, Terrey Hills”.

The new project comes just four years after the group, under its previous owners, almost collapsed owing more than $21m to hundreds of creditors.

It is now owned by North Shore brothers Ben and Jono Isaac and has cafes and restaurants including Manly Pavilion, Barrenjoey House, Mona Social, The Boathouse Shelly Beach and The Boathouse Hotel Patonga, under its umbrella.

Their company, Isaac Property Developments, bought the undeveloped 1.6ha site on Myoora Rd for $9.8m in early 2022.

Documents lodged to Northern Beaches Council on October 18 state the complex would be made up of a “series of low-scale ‘farm-style’ restaurant pavilions set within a landscaped open space”.

“(It) will serve the community and support the vitality of Terrey Hills by providing a new venue for the community to enjoy,” according to the Statement of Environmental Effects.

“The Farmhouse” would include three licensed restaurants with outdoor dining areas.

More than 8300 plants would be added to the site, including 93 trees and 18 palms.

A basement car park would hold 156 vehicles and there would also be a children’s play area, pergolas and a stage as well as large lawn area.

It would open from 7am-12am, seven days a week and have room for a maximum 794 patrons.

The three separate restaurant areas would offer “distinct dining experiences”.

“Restaurant 1”, according to the documents, would “provide a casual dining experience” and have a “pitched roof reminiscent of a rural Australian shed”.

“Restaurant 2 is the central restaurant and will be the primary food and beverage offering at the site. The restaurant will provide a relaxed, family-friendly dining offer with indoor and outdoor dining options.

“The outdoor dining terrace will be a protected space with landscaped pergolas alongside a small stage to provide ambient live music from midday to 10pm.”

Plans say its design, including a bar, would be “reminiscent of the iconic Australian ‘wraparound verandah’.”

“Restaurant 3” will offer a “fine-dining experience” and also have a covered outdoor dining area.

Boathouse Group chief executive Antony Jones recently told this masthead that “we are not a high end brand”.

“It’s not what we are about. It’s a premium offering in a casual setting,” he said.

“Everyone is welcome.”

Plans for The Farmhouse, Terrey Hills, are set to go on public exhibition for three weeks, from October 28.
